As of today, November 20th…

we celebrate the one year anniversary of our first Perma Red History and Culture Retreat!

First off, we want to express our immense gratitude to all of those that have supported us thus far. This groundswell of support has been pivotal to the lifeblood of this project. A year ago this week, the Perma Red team held a retreat at the Salish Kootenai College. There, we idealized what the future of Perma Red could be and how we could all work together to create a movement of Indigenous Filmmaking. What has happened in the year since has been nothing short of extraordinary. Perma Red has grown exponentially. We have met with huge production companies and gained  the attention of large players in the film industry. What an exciting number of months it has been!

A Trip to Hollywood

In August, members of the Perma Red Team traveled to Los Angeles to pitch to production companies. Lynn-Wood Fields (Executive Producer), Wenonah Wilms (Writer), and Maya Rose Dittloff (Director/Producer) met with exciting companies across the city and found a true ally- Blue Ant Media.

We are excited to announce that we have now partnered with Blue Ant Media as our production company! For the next few months, Blue Ant will be operating to attach A-List talent to Perma Red (any star roles, a showrunner) to sweeten the package before we pitch our to TV networks and streaming services such as HBO, Amazon, Netflix and more!

We do apologize for not being more communicative, but as we were in legal negotiations we were unable to communicate. Turns out the timeline to making a TV show is much longer than anticipated.

What's next?

Perma Red is looking back home. In the past year, the Montana MEDIA Act was passed and Montana Studios has broken ground on two new soundstages. What does that mean?

Montana now has the most competitive tax incentive in the United States. With this new incentive, production companies, networks, filmmakers, are all looking to Montana as a place to shoot their next project. The hope is that a new influx of jobs will come to the state- helping everyone from caterers, cultural consultants, writers and directors. Perma Red is committed to making sure these jobs are filled by the Flathead Reservation community. As we look to the future, we remain committed in our roots.

Together we can indigenize the screen!

In essence, our hope for the future is simple: build Montana as a hub for Indigenous Cinema. This means Indigenous crew across the state, that can be employed in Perma Red and beyond. As we work to secure funding to greenlight Perma Red and to begin production, we are happy to see the MEDIA Act go into implementation, for Montana Studios to begin operation, and for our community members to feel apart of something greater.

Today, we thank each and every one of you for supporting the project as we look towards the future.

Sincerely,

Maya Rose Dittloff
